Bucharest’s cocktail scene has matured impressively over the past five years. Where once the options were limited to hotel bars and tourist traps serving overpriced, poorly-made drinks, the city now boasts serious cocktail bars with skilled bartenders, quality ingredients, and thoughtful drink programs.
The concentration of bars in Centrul Vechi means you can easily bar-hop between several quality spots in a single evening, while the neighborhoods around Piața Romană and Victoriei offer more intimate, locals-oriented venues.

Classic Cocktails Done Right

SIP Bucharest has earned its reputation as one of the city’s top cocktail bars by focusing on the classics. The menu reads like a bartender’s textbook — Old Fashioned, Negroni, Manhattan, Daiquiri — but each drink is executed with precision using quality spirits and traditional techniques. The bartenders know their craft, the atmosphere is sophisticated without pretension, and the drinks are consistently excellent.
Oficiul 1 takes a similar approach to classic cocktails but adds the bonus of a stunning historic setting. Housed in Bucharest’s first post office, the space retains architectural details from its past life while serving drinks that respect cocktail tradition.
Creative Mixology
For those seeking something more adventurous, Fix Me a Drink pushes boundaries with botanical ingredients and house-made infusions. The menu changes with the seasons, incorporating fresh herbs, flowers, and fruits into inventive cocktail creations. This is true craft cocktailing — experimental but grounded in solid technique.
Atmosphere & Energy
Beluga Music & Cocktails combines quality drinks with a vibrant nightlife atmosphere. The cocktails are well-balanced and delicious, but the energy here is more upbeat than contemplative. Live music and DJ sets create a party vibe, making it ideal for groups and social evenings.
NOMAD Skybar offers similar energy but adds the appeal of a rooftop setting. While technically a rooftop bar (covered in our rooftop guide), NOMAD’s cocktail program is strong enough to merit inclusion here. The Old Town location, retractable roof, and multiple spaces create a dynamic venue that works for both afternoon drinks and late-night cocktails.
For Gin Lovers
Ginoteca specializes in gin-based cocktails with an extensive selection of gins from around the world. The bartenders are knowledgeable and can guide you through different gin styles and recommend cocktails that highlight specific botanical profiles. If gin and tonic is your drink, this is your bar.
Beyond Cocktails
While The Harp Irish Pub isn’t a cocktail bar, it deserves mention as one of Bucharest’s best bars for a relaxed evening drink. The whiskey selection is excellent, the atmosphere is authentically pubby, and the live music creates a convivial environment. Sometimes you want a well-poured Guinness more than a perfectly balanced Negroni, and The Harp delivers.
Control Club blurs the line between bar and nightclub. The focus is on underground electronic music, but the cocktail program is solid. Come here when you want good drinks alongside great music and a creative, alternative crowd.
