We're a team of Bucharest locals building the city guide we wished existed when friends kept asking: "What should I do in Bucharest?"
Why we built this
Salut Bucuresti started in the early 2000s, when it made a strong entrance with a hand-drawn map of Bucharest. This was before Google Maps had any presence in Bucharest or Eastern Europe in general. The map was so original and useful for its time that some restaurants even used it in their own fliers. Over the years, the website became outdated. In 2025, with fresh energy, we brought this project back to life with a completely new approach.
Most Bucharest guides are written by people who spent a long weekend here, or they're aggregator sites republishing Google ratings without any local judgment. We rebuilt Salut Bucuresti to fix that — we cover places that matter to people who actually live here, not just the TripAdvisor top 10.
Who we are
The project is led by Andrei T., with over 30 years of living in Bucharest. Our team knows the city neighborhood by neighborhood — from the terraces in Floreasca to the markets in Obor, from the cafes in Cotroceni to the bars along Calea Victoriei.
We write for tourists who want to discover the real Bucharest and for locals looking to rediscover their own city.
How we select places
We have no commercial partnerships with any restaurant, hotel, or attraction. Every place in our guides is selected based on:
Local judgment
Every place is selected by Bucharest locals — not algorithms. Some venues we've visited personally; others we know from years of living here.
Public ratings
Public ratings and reviews, including data from Google Places.
Visitor relevance
We don't recommend places just because they're popular.
Our guides are built on three sources: personal visits to neighborhoods and key venues, local knowledge built over 30+ years living in Bucharest, and verified public data from Google Places. When we've personally visited a place, we say so — soon you'll see a "Tested by us" badge directly on venue listings where a team member has made an in-person visit.
All descriptions are original, written by our team. Factual data (ratings, review counts, addresses) comes from the Google Places API and is verified periodically.
What we cover
